Life Support Teams
The Life Support Team (LST) went into service in 1976 as the EMS provider for the City of Medina. What this means is that when you call 9-1-1 one of our LST squads is dispatched to provide emergency medical assistance for you.
The squads responding to your 9-1-1 calls are staffed by experienced, highly trained paramedics. That’s important, because as paramedics they have the training and expertise to assess medical conditions and administer medications on site. Our paramedics provide rapid response utilizing state-of-the-art pre-hospital equipment and the latest EMS protocols while working closely with Emergency Room physicians at Medina Hospital. In addition, the LST staff has many years of experience with the hospital. LST staff knows the community, where people live and are involved in community programs. They are your neighbors and friends.
Because time is critical when responding to heart attacks, the Medina Hospital Foundation helped the hospital invest in a STEMI communication system for our LST squads. This technology sends electrocardiogram (EKG) information from the LST squads to the Emergency Room physicians at Medina Hospital. The physicians can then determine the appropriate level of care for the patient. If an intervention is needed, the physician can make arrangements with the closest appropriate hospital to perform the procedure, saving precious time.
Station 5 (Montville) is one of two locations operated by the Medina Life Support Team, providing advanced life support emergency medical services to all of Montville Township, the City of Medina, and Medina Township, 24 hours a day.
There are a total of three full time crews, two of which are located at Medina Hospital and one at Montville Safety Services Center. Each ambulance is staffed by two certified Paramedics and equipped with state-of the-are EMS and communication equipment. LST responds to over 4300 calls per year (over 400 in Montville Township). The Montville Township Safety Services Center location covers most of Montville Township and some southern areas of Medina City, and is available to all of the LST service area when needed. This new station location has improved response time to Montville EMS calls.
